Rinus Michels is the man to thank for the invention of the famous tactic "Totaalvoetbal" ("Total Football" to the rest of us).

The modern football tactic changed the shape of the game by giving players freedom to move and operate unlike ever before. Except the goalkeeper there were no fixed positions which resulted in fluid and fantastic football. Michels used the tactic to great success with Ajax, Barcelona and the Dutch national team. It also sowed the seeds for future tactics such as Spain and Barcelona's hugely successful ''tiki-taka''.
